Curriculum for a Major in Communication & New Media, Bachelor of Science 2014-15 Catalog

Total hours required for the major: 45

Students take core classes, elective practicum and capstone sequences, and choose one of three concentrations: 1) digital filmmaking, 2) new media, 3) media studies or 4) strategic communication. Note: A Bachelor of Arts degree is also available.

REQUIRED CORE COURSES: 21 HOURS

Students must complete lower-level core courses before taking 400-level courses. However, students are encouraged to begin taking their concentration courses concurrently.

  • COMM 203 Communication & New Media
  • COMM 302 Narrative Scriptwriting OR COMM 335 Writing Across Platforms
  • COMM 304 History of Film OR COMM 305 History of Television
  • COMM 352 Computer-Mediated Communication
    Select 9 credits from the following:

SELECT ONE OF FOUR CONCENTRATIONS: 15 HOURS

Student selects any 12 hours of Digital Filmmaking and New Media courses.
